The Advantages of Diesel Automobiles

Posted on April 22nd, 2015

Diesel technology is constantly being improved. Traditionally, only trucks used diesels engines, but because of their many benefits it is becoming more and more popular to have passenger cars with diesel engines. Here are some of the benefits of diesel cars:

Fuel Economy – Diesel cars have much better fuel economy than gas engines. Diesel fuel is one the most efficient and energy dense fuels available. It has more usable energy than gasoline giving it better fuel economy. In addition, diesel engines generate more power out of less fuel because they have a higher compression rate.  Diesel engines typically have 25% to 35% better fuel economy than gasoline engines.

Maintenance – Diesel engines work differently than gasoline engines as they do not have an electric fuel ignition system. This makes them easier to maintain, reduces repair costs, and allows for more time between maintenance services. They also have a longer lifespan.

Torque – Most diesel engines start faster from a standstill position. They have more torque to the drive shaft because of the way the fuel burns.

Lower Emissions and Taxes – A diesel car produces fewer emissions mainly because diesel is burned in excess air. Because the C02 emissions are lower, it also has lower taxes.

Avoid Using Cell Phones While Driving

Posted on April 13th, 2015

imagesDriving requires your full attention and if you are distracted by your cell phone your reaction time is significantly reduced. Research shows that drivers who use cell phones are four times more likely to be in a collision than drivers who are focused on the road.

In Ontario. it is against the law to operate hand held communication and entertainment devices while driving, and to view screens unrelated to your driving. You can receive a fine up to $500 and if you endanger others because of this distraction the fine can go up to $2,000, with a loss of six demerit points, a jail term of up to six months and up to a two year licence suspension. You can also be charged with dangerous driving, which is a criminal offense, punishable with a jail term of up to five years.

Here are some tips to help you avoid cell phone distraction while you drive:

- Turn off your phone while driving or have it set to go directly to voicemail

- Only use your phone when you are parked or have a passenger take the call

- Use a hands free device, such as Bluetooth, that does not require you to dial or scroll through contacts
